Today's Street Level takes us to Madison Street, an east-west thoroughfare that runs through the neighborhoods of Manor Park, Brightwood Park, and 16th Street Heights in Northwest D.C. Some collectively call them North Petworth (a reference to the emerging neighborhood to the south), but these are really distinct neighborhoods with their own personalities and loyal residents.
Madison Street is mostly residential, with a distinctly urban feel, though the houses get a little grander and more spread out as the street approaches its terminus at Rock Creek Park. On the eastern end of the street, Fort Slocum Park (in the last photo) looks like a lovely spot for pinicking in the open fields or for exploring the woods and trails at the edge of the park.
