Ontario Place Update

Announcing new buttons for the Ontario Place sweater.  The original buttons are no longer available, so I had to scare up some replacements.  I never thought finding white buttons would be as challenging as it turned out to, but these are pretty terrific.  Good thing I found them, because I've just had a run on Ontario Place sweaters!

I think you'll hardly notice a difference, though the new buttons are just a smidge bigger than the original buttons.  (I'm noticing that the blue green yarn in the top picture appears really dark.  Rest assured it's the same color as in the bottom picture.) 

 

Belt Road

Last (and latest) but certainly not least on our trip through the Friendship Heights Collection is the Belt Road sweater.  I have been wanting to do a hoodie for the longest time now, so I was really excited to finally have the chance.  And I'm so glad I did it!  The sweater turned out so warm and cozy--perfect for a gray winter day!

I designed this sweater to be a boys' sweater, but Trish took some shots of a little girl wearing it, and I have to say that it looks darling.  I should have remembered how much little girls love purple!  But it's a good reminder not to be so rigid about boys' and girls' clothing.

Reno Road

Next up in the Friendship Heights Collection is the Reno Road sweater.  The sweater is bright yellow and blue-green in an interlocking pattern that creates a really neat effect.  The way this pattern is knit results in a sweater that's a little thicker than others, so it's quite warm in the winter.  It's unisex, and perfect for little boys and little girls.

Jenifer Street

The next stop on our trip through the Friendship Heights Collection is the Jenifer Street sweater (no, that's not a misspelling).  This sweet little sweater is perfect for a sweet little girl, in shades of pink and purple (a girl's favorite colors!), with gray to ground it.  The sweater buttons at the left shoulder, with three purple star buttons that were custom made for this sweater.

Ingomar Street

First up in our tour of the Friendship Heights Collection is the Ingomar Street sweater.  This cardigan features a fun yellow and gray chevron pattern, with broad ribbing at the base, cuffs, and button band.  The four buttons in front were custom-designed to match the light yellow in the sweater exactly!  This sweater was such fun to knit--I loved watching the diagonal lines emerge as I knit straight across. 

Note that the pattern is "open," which essentially means that it has holes in it.  That makes for a really interesting texture, but kids will definitely need to wear something underneath.

Introducing the Friendship Heights Collection

Today marks the debut of the second Yellow House Knits collection, the Friendship Heights collection!  As of today, all four sweaters are on sale on the YHK Etsy site. 

I've been working on this collection for over a year now, and I'm so pleased with how beautifully the sweaters turned out (if I do say so myself).  I really love the sophisticated color combinations that use gray as a great neutral base.  You may notice that this collection features a couple of new styles (including a hoodie!) and new patterns (including that great yellow and gray chevron pattern).  Look for these styles and patterns in upcoming sweaters as well.

Friendship Heights is a vibrant neighborhood in Upper Northwest D.C., just over the Maryland border.  I wanted this collection to showcase the youthful spirit of that part of town.  In the coming days, I'll post more pictures of the individual sweaters.  All sweaters are available in sizes up to 24 months.

New Buttons for Spring!

The Spring Road sweater is getting an upgrade!  I just got these great new daisy buttons, which will be featured on the Spring Road sweater going forward.  The overall look is very much the same, but these new buttons are higher quality and will make the sweater that much more special.  The response so far has been great.  I think you'll love them! 

 

Good Enough to Eat!

Love this picture of Little Miss H. in her custom sweater.  I think the colors in this sweater look like sherbet (or "sherbert," as I tend to say).  That melon color may be my new favorite, and I think it looks amazing combined with the lighter pink in the stripes and the yellow and pink buttons. 

For those of you playing along at home, this sweater is essentially the Belmont Street sweater.  The trim along the edges and around the neck is a little different, but this sweater is a great example of how we can tinker with an existing design to create something new and even more fabulous. 

Street Level: Columbia Road

Today’s Street Level takes us to Columbia Road in Northwest D.C.  Columbia Road starts as a residential street, lined with working class homes, not far from the Washington Hospital Center.  It runs through a number of different neighborhoods, including recently revitalized Columbia Heights and bustling Adams Morgan, and ends just above Dupont Circle.

 

At one time, Columbia Road formed the northern border of Columbian College (which we know today as The George Washington University and which has since relocated). 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Somerset Place Cardigan

I just finished up a custom version of the Somerset Place sweater as a cardigan, rather than a pullover.  I'm really happy with how it turned out!  The cardigan really showcases those awesome brown buttons!
