New Sweater: Geranium Street

I'm so happy that the Geranium Street sweater is FINALLY available (find it on Etsy here).  This sweater has been in the works for forever, but the universe seemed to be conspiring against me to get it finished.  But it's finally ready, and it's spectacular (if I do say so myself!).  All of the sweaters I knit are my favorites, but this one might really be a favorite.  The colors (light and bright pink, lime green, orange) are so vibrant and cheerful.  The overall look is sort of tropical--as tropical as a wool sweater can be!

Swing Higher!

These photographs of the Potomac Avenue sweater from Amy Tripple in Chicago literally took my breath away.  I think this one is my favorite:

It looks like such an idyllic moment.  Beautiful day.  Beautiful scenery.  Beautiful child.  (Beautiful sweater.)  And there's something about being on a swing that just speaks to me.

Park Road Cardigan

I just put this variation of the Park Road sweater in the mail.  Katya loved the colors of the Park Road sweater, but she wanted a cardigan rather than a V-neck pullover.  So we changed the neckline and added some buttons--and look how great it turned out!  The pop of turquoise in the buttons is an especially fun touch. 

I think this sweater is a great example of how existing sweater designs can be tweaked to fit your needs.  You're limited only by your imagination!

Quincy Street Cuties

(I couldn't bring myself to title this post "Quincy Street QTs!)

Either way: Cute! Cute! Cute! These pictures of the Quincy Street sweater, from photographer Jennifer Tibbetts are so darn cute! Love those crossed feet on the little boy, and the rosy cheeks on the little girl! And doesn't that chair look so fabulous with the sweater! Perfect, as usual!

Macomb Street Revisited

The buttons on the original Macomb Street sweater aren't available anymore, so I had to swap in some different ones for a two-sweater order I just finished up.  I love the spherical shape and the slight funky texture.  Actually, I think may even like these new ones better than the originals--good thing I stocked up!

Fall is in the Air

I'm delinquent in not posting these fantastic pictures of the Woodley Road sweater from photographer Rachel Mazzaferro sooner, but today seems like the perfect day to do it because it's the first day that it feels like fall outside. (I actually saw someone wearing gloves this morning, which seemed like a bit of overkill to me!) And, this sweater just screams "fall" to me. I can almost see the leaves turning colors and floating to the ground against a bright blue sky, with the smell of camp fires and apple cider in the air.

I guess I'm getting ahead of myself.  Well, whatever the season, these little cuties are just adorable! Thanks to Rachel for the amazing pictures!

New Sweater!

Check out the NEW Van Ness Street sweater, which is available on the Yellow House Knits Etsy shop now.  I'm really trying to make more sweaters that are targeted at boys, because I know lots of moms say there's not enough cute stuff for boys.  The baseball button on this pocket puts it in the boys camp, but I could easily swap the baseball for a more neutral (or even girly) button if the sweater is intended for a girl or for an expecting mom who doesn't know the sex.

Precious Primrose

I just got these fantastic pictures of little Kailah wearing the Primrose Street sweater.  Isn't she gorgeous?  A stunner already!

Custom Sweater

Have I mentioned that I love doing custom work?  I finished up this sweater today.  The customer wanted a sweater for her Goddaughter, but she wanted something that wasn't pink, purple, or other typical "little girl colors."  We came up with this vibrant combination of red, purple, and lime green.  I'm thrilled with how it turned out!  She'll certainly be the brightest kid at day care!

Peabody Street as a Cardigan

I just finished up this custom order.  R. loved the Peabody Street sweater, but she reallty wanted a cardigan for her son.  So I tweaked the design just a little bit and . . . Voila!  I think it looks darling!  I hope R. sends a picture of her son wearing it!

I hope this example will remind customers to think of the sweater designs on the website as mere starting points.  I'm always happy to play around with any design to make it best suit your needs.

Finally . . . A New Listing!

I'm so excited about the new Chesapeake Street sweater.  I designed it around those awesome fish buttons, which were custom-made for Yellow House Knits.  I wanted the sweater to be in the same colorway as the buttons, but I didn't want it to be too matchy-matchy, so I swapped in turquoise trim for the purple in the buttons.  I think the change was a good call--the turquoise really livens it up.  I'm just delighted with how it turned out!

The sweater is currently available in stock in size 12 months, but it can be knit to order in any size.  Email me for more information.

Water Street Sweater

I'm sure the colors in this sweater give away why I chose to name the sweater Water Street.  I started this sweater a while back but was short just a tiny bit of the darker blue yarn--only to find out that it was back-ordered.  Argh!!  Frustrating!  I was worried that I was going to have to frog the whole sweater or find some way to change the color of the cuffs and neckline.  So when the yarn finally came in, I was excited to be able to finish the sweater.  And I'm so pleased with how it turned out. Those blue swirly buttons are just perfect.

I really love how good the sweater looks in the pictures.  The bright blue against the yellow house is so vibrant!

Water Street runs parallel to the Potomac River in Georgetown and leads directly to the Capital Crescent Trail, a trail that runs from Georgetown to Bethesda, Maryland.  Back when I was training for the marathon, I ran along Water Street A LOT.

Prospect Street Sweater

I just listed a new sweater in my Etsy shop.  I've been wanting to make this sweater forever, but I have (happily) been busy with a couple of special orders.  Plus, that lime green yarn is so popular that I couldn't keep enough around to make any real progress.  So I started the sweater a while back, but it languished for months.

I'm glad I finally got to finish the sweater because I'm delighted with how it turned out.  The four buttons were custom made for this sweater, and the greens match perfectly.  

Prospect Street is one of the most historic streets in the Georgetown neighborhood in Washington, D.C.  In the early 1800s, wealthy shipowners, merchants, and land speculators built mansions overlooking the harbor.  Today, it's a major business and residential corridor.

Pink & Green Sweater for Pink & Green Thursday

I finished this custom-order sweater last weekend, but I saved it for Trish's Pink & Green Thursday over at Pink Preppy Lilly Lover.

 

I just adore this sweater.  Pink is my favorite color, and I love the white and [insert favorite bright color] striped sweater pattern. Most of all, I think the green buttons are so fantastic and unexpected.  The customer and I went back and forth, back and forth between green and turquoise buttons and ultimately settled on the green, which was the right call (the turquoise would have been fun but not quite as bold). 

 

I really hope the customer sends me a picture of her daughter wearing the sweater!  Happy Pink & Green Thursday.
