Spring at the Yellow House

The Yellow House is in full bloom!  I just love this time of year!

(Don't miss Mr. Bullet hanging out in the corner there.  He's gotten so skinny that he looks like one of the bars on the fence.  Mr. Bullet hates the hose, so he's not much help with the gardening.)

Walter Street

Last but not least is the Walter Street sweater for little boys. The sweater is dark turquoise with a band of green, light turquoise, and cream across the bottom, and matching stripes on the sleeves. The look is completed by custom-made sailboat buttons at the neckline, which are perfect with the shoreline feel of the blues and greens in the sweater. The red in the buttons adds just the right amount of contrast.

Pennsylvania Avenue

The third sweater in the Easter Market Collection is the Pennsylvania Avenue sweater.  The sweater is named after the main drag in the Eastern Market neighborhood, also perhaps one of the most famous avenues in the country.

The sweater, which is unisex, was the inspiration for the whole collection. I just love the color combination--such bright, HAPPY colors--and I think the v-neck gives it a sort of 50s collegiate style.

Check the sweater out on Etsy here.

East Capitol Street

The second sweater in the Eastern Market Collection is the East Capitol Street sweater.  This fresh little unisex sweater is primarily green with a cream lattice pattern.  If I do say so myself, it may be one of my all-time favorite Yellow House Knits sweaters.  East Capitol Street divides the northeast and southeast quadrants of Washington, D.C., and has long been considered a distinguished address on Capitol Hill, with many large and beautiful old homes.  I wanted to create a sweater that does justice to this important street--How did I do?

The East Capitol Street sweater is available here.

Independence Avenue

Sweater 1 in the Eastern Market Collection is the Independence Avenue sweater.  The sweater is light turquoise and red, and the hallmark of the sweater is a big red heart on the front.  The bottom edge of the sweater is slightly flared, and the edges of the body and sleeves have a little ruffle.  On the back is a surprise pattern of red and turquoise stripes.

You can find the Independence Avenue sweater on the Yellow House Knits Etsy shop here.

Introducing the Eastern Market Collection!

I'm SUPER excited to introduce the very first Yellow House Knits collection . . . the Eastern Market Collection, which is officially on sale!

Named after my own corner of Capitol Hill, here in Washington, D.C., the Eastern Market collection is a vibrant set of four sweaters in two shades of turquoise, as well as red, cream, and yellow.  These sweaters look great together and individually.  I've been working on these for a while now, and I'm just so happy with how they turned out.

Over the next few days, I'll post more pictures of the individual sweaters, as well as direct links to the sweaters in the Etsy shop .  As always, the sweaters can be knit in any size up to size 2, and can be ordered through the Etsy shop or directly through yellowhouseknits[at]gmail.

Special thanks to Jennifer Tibbetts for the gorgeous photographs!

Love in Blue and Grey

These amazing pictures of the Kennedy Street sweater popped up in my mailbox today, and I couldn't stop smiling when I saw them.  The pictures are from Jane Huddleston of janey pie photography in Baton Rouge.  The Kennedy Street sweater is one of the most popular Yellow House Knits sweaters, so I was hoping for terrific pictures, and Jane didn't disappoint me.  It was truly love at first sight!  I hope Jane and I will get to work together a lot more!  Thanks Jane for the fantastic pictures!

Spring Semi-Annual Sale

I'm excited to announce the dates for the spring edition of the Semi-Annual Sale.  This time around the Yellow House Knits Semi-Annual Sale will run from April 15 to April 28.  The Semi-Annual Sale is your chance to get gorgeous handknit baby sweaters at a significantly reduced cost.  Believe it or not, now is the best time to order sweaters for the fall.

All sweaters will be 30% OFF. Please be aware that the queue fills up very quickly during the sale, so the wait for knit-to-order sweaters may be longer for sweaters ordered during the sale. If timing is an issue, plan to order early during the sale. Sweaters will be knit in the order they are purchased, and the turnaround time will be regularly updated on the Etsy site.

As usual, there will also be an additional special offer for bloggers and Facebookers: Blog about the sale (or post on Facebook) between April 15 and April 22 and receive free shipping on your sale items (in addition to the 30% off) or save 15% on a future order. Blog postings must include at least one picture of a Yellow House Knits sweater. Email yellowhouseknits(at)gmail.com to let me know where to find your posting, and I will email information about redeeming these offers. So schedule your blog postings now!

Tropical Inspiration

I'm late in posting pictures of my trip to Puerto Rico, but I've been knitting furiously lately. It's hard to imagine that a tropical paradise could be such a great inspiration for wool sweaters, but it really was. The resort where I stayed was an old coconut plantation at the base of the El Yunque rainforest. The folliage was just magnificent--lush greenery and bursts of color at every turn. I've been thinking about how to incorporate these colors into a Puerto Rico-inspired sweater.  Can't wait to show you what I come up with!
